Do you believe mastering web development isn't enough for you to be able to get a high salary?

I remember one friend of mine says he's being criticized by his workmates for developing a website only and he gets paid high for that. Now I want to know your opinion if it is really not acceptible to get a high salary just to develop a website only?

I think web developers/designers deserve the high pay. It's not like coding is that easy to learn. We have to learn it and practice it to make a living out of it. Not to mention the deadlines and bugs are stressful at times especially when you're a beginner.

Yes, that is so true. So I think they shouldn't degrade those who can do website only. It is just so sad to know that some people think if they know that you are a programmer you must all know aside from programming that relates to computer networking, troubleshooting, hardware, etc. The point is web developers deserve high salary too.

Whilst I agree with you, unfortunately, it isn't going to be like this in the real especially in a few years time. I'm sure that a lot of web developers and designers spend a lot of time learning about how to do it well and to ensure that their clients are happy. Unfortunately, the market is pretty saturated and the number of people that want web development as a career means there are too many people in the sector. And this results in prices being put down because everyone wants to increase their sales and therefore keep trying to undercut their competitors.

I think it differs on the experience and skills. Like other jobs, skills and experience plays a big role in defining your salary. There's a lot of developers that have job categories or specialist. One of the reason of being paid big is because one excels on a certain category or level of a job.

I see. You have a point there. But I think if he already mastered web development then I am pretty sure that he has a field of specialization already in web development. But just like what you said, it differs on the experience and on the skills and I agree with that.

Developing a website isn't always a highly skilled affair. I mean, someone could just upload some one-click applications, do a few minor changes, and bam, a website! Anyway, though, this situation would only scam a newbie, but there are tons of them! So I see this like what auto mechanics sometimes do, overcharge.

Developing website is not a skyrocket science. There many guys are prolific in doing it. But translating website design skills to high earning is a personal choice. Being unique and creatively different would make a website developer high demand.

What do you mean by web development? I mean, if you're talking about the best, then you're talking about CSS proficiency, not just application proficiency (uploading WordPress, XenForo blogs etc.) as I have. Anyway, even the best of the best have a tough time because of the market. For instance, I'm sure theme developers like ThemeHouse or RocketThemes had to fight hard for what they got!
