Perhaps something that is obvious, but not to me. Google leads me down a series of sophisticated and complex rabbit holes, I think misunderstanding what I require.
I have a grid, essentially made up from blanks or jpgs, with some text, which makes a diagram for supervising a home automation system. It needs to be on a single screen, so that the status can be seen at a glance. The grid is 11x10, so not far off square. I don't really care if some of the finer detail, such as some of the text can't be read correctly on a phone screen, but I do not want to be scrolling.
Works well on my desktop monitor and on my phone screen in portrait. However in landscape the width fills the screen and the height needs to be scrolled. Seems like it is irritatingly doing as I told it to do with....
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
So what I want is that on the phone in landscape mode the limiting factor is height, scale to that.
Obviously stuff like @media rearranging the blocks in the grid is absolutely not what I want. I wouldn't even mind if on a very small screen it were stretched to fill the available space.
Any ideas what I should be looking up and studying to find a solution?
Thanks
