Blog and Forum Backlinks

I think this method is outdated as a way of SEO, but not so possibly for traffic. Anyway, back in the day all the SEOs were wanting links on blog comments. However, though, as expected, they spammed out the method - making it useless. Anyhow, though, blog commenting is still useful for SEO, but it's not about the link connected but about showing blog activity.
