Are fancy logos essential in web design?

All too often I see many people who own websites or even design for websites wanting to add fancy logos to their designs. As much as fancy logos can be great to see, sometimes it is not always necessary and something basic could work better.

What are your thoughts? Are fancy logos essential in web design?

If the logos are captivating and attract the attention of people then fancy it is. As long as it gets the job done then go ahead with it.
