    Building My First Website

Okay, so I have a handle on basic html and am learning CSS and would like to build my first site. I want some great graphics to go along with it. I've already created a banner, logo (handrawn converted to vector), and found textures for the site. Is there any other graphics that need to be...

Looking to learn javascript? Have a look!

Can I ask? What is Javascript best used for? I'm looking to start front end designing, but I want to know - is javascript useful for that or only back end programming? Thanks!

The 3 basic formatting features of HTML

Yes, it's totally free and it's simple and easy to use. You can learn CSS, as well, and other languages in addition to those. It's set up in a sort of school lesson type format to learn in small chunks. I would recommend it!

    New to html

If you'd really like to learn html by hand with tutorials or need some help, I thought codecademy was very good. It goes through the process step by step and will show you how to code by hand. It also goes through CSS and there are options for you to chose other languages, as well.

A question about learning HTML from the ground up

Try looking at some small business web pages. Often times mom and pop stores or local businesses don't have the money to shell out for expensive or complicated sites and someone will put together a static html site for them. You might have the best success with those!

The 3 basic formatting features of HTML

I do occasionally use these tags from time to time on forums that allow html usage, but that don't have a wysiwyg feature. I rarely need to use them anymore, though. That being said, these are useful for complete beginners, but not very useful for someone who has been using these features for a...

    New to Graphics

Hi everyone, I do some hand drawn graphics for site design, however, I'd love to learn how to do traditional graphic design. Do I need to take classes at a community college to do this or is there a better way? I'd really love to find some comprehensive tutorials for inkscape and gimp to learn...

    Inkscape?

I love inkscape! I'd like to learn graphic design via computer, but don't know where to start. That being said, I'm an artist and learned how to hand draw logos for sites and I use inkscape to clean them up and turn them into a vector. It's an invaluable program and I don't know what I'd do...

    Minimalism

I like minimalistic designs especially if they are done in a way that showcases what a client is trying to project. The design really needs to complement the objective of the site. Some of my favorite sites are simply photo posts or black and white sites with a clean font.

    Getting Started

I would like to learn to develop front end websites and now some basic html and am familiar with CSS, although I don't know how to code it quite yet. What would you recommend a new designer learn to begin with? Do you have specific programs that are a must? What are your favorite tutorials or...

When did you start using HTML and Why?

I started learning HTML when I was in junior high because I wanted to learn to create websites, however, I never followed through. I did use the html I learned to my advantage when I wanted to create forum posts or emails that had special features. That being said, this last year I dabbled in it...

What does the community here think about Codecademy?

I used it for basic html knowledge and beginning to learn CSS and absolutely loved it. It's easy to use, not to mention free. I felt like it was really geared toward teaching lasting knowledge because it reuses items learned over and over so that you'll remember how to do them. My favorite thing...
