What are the most common mistakes developers make with HTML, and how can they be avoided?

As developers, whilst we try to avoid mistakes that we know can have an impact on our work, sometimes we can easily fall into the trap of making easy mistakes, sometimes without even realizing it.

As a developer, what common mistakes do you feel you or even others run into that are quite common? Do you feel they could be avoided in some way?

Something I have been told and still did since it was convenient, was using a lot of div elements.

HTML offers many elements that are well suited for the task, but even then I would use a div element since it could basically be used for anything and it was easy to add.

If it gets too much, it can be hard to maintain.
